Telecommunications Software and Multimedia Laboratory (TML) was established in 1995 to meet the challenges of the new, rapidly growing branch. The laboratory plays a part in maintaining Finland's status as one of the leading countries in data communications techniques, as well as ensuring rapid adoption of new media techniques applications.

The laboratory does research and gives education in three main areas:

Laboratory has good possibilities for postgraduate studies and there is a lot of research going on all the time.

The laboratory has computer classrooms for teaching multimedia techniques, contents creation and network security. In the laboratory, there is also an experimental virtual environment, part of which is owned by CSC, the Finnish IT center for science.
