Returning of homework assignments

  1. Write your answer to a ASCII-textfile (8-bit scandic letters are allowed). HTML, Word, PowerPoint, WordPerfect or any other type are not allowed. If you write your answer using, for example, Pico, you get a plain ASCII file.

  2. Now sign your file (named, for example, answer - you can choose any name you want to) using PGP.
    pgps -ab answer -o sign
If you work in pair, both of you should sign the answer with his/her own key. The other signature should naturally be in different file (for example, sign2)
    • If you and your pair are physically in same place:
For example, your login is pair1 and your pair's pair2. Transfer the answer to pair2.
      scp answer pair2@alpha:
scp asks for pair2's password. After that, pair2 should login to alpha and sign the answer with his/her own key
      pgps -ab answer -o sign2
Then the sign2 file should be transferred to pair1 again
      scp sign2 pair1@alpha:
scp asks now for pair1's password. All the files needed should now be in pair1's home directory.
    • If you're doing homeworks from different places, you can send those files as e-mail attachments.
Now you should have your plain text answer in anwer file, and it's signature in sign (and sign2, if you work in pair)

  3. Start your mail agent (for example, Pine)

  4. Set recepient: tlark@tml.hut.fi

  5. Set subject: submission

  6. Attach both your answer (answer) and your signature (sign) to the message (Ctrl+J in Pine). If your work in pair, two signatures should be attached.

  7. In the body of your message, write the following rows:
    #ID your_student_number
If your work in pair, both student numbers are needed.
    #SERIES number_of_homework_series
    #CID tlark

    For example:
    #ID 12345x
    #SERIES 1
    #CID tlark

    or:
    #ID 12345x 56789y
    #SERIES 1
    #CID tlark

Anything else will be concidered as comments for this homework series.

  8. Check again that you have done everything correctly and send the mail (Ctrl+X in Pine)
