Privacy vs. location awareness

Location-aware computing is one of the hot research topics nowdays.
Applications based on the context of the computer system are about to
became reality. Even today many of us carries a device which can be seen
as a pager which tells where we are - the cellular phone or GSM. The
GSM network knows where you are quite accurately, and still it is not
really used to locate the person carrying the phone.

Describe location-awareness as a concept. What kind of applications would use location-awareness of a, say PDA as a new possibility of a business-making. What kind of impact this would have to privacy of the person using this kind of device? Is it a new possibility or an ingenious way to monitor citizens? What about the privacy of other people near you? The PDA could tell who are near you? Do these other peoples have right to stay private? However, you could still see them, would the result be the same without a PDA which also know who are near you? What about legistlation? Does it say anything about this kind of vision about future and the new possibilities of ubiquitous computing?
Discuss the topic and consider different kind of view points to location awareness vs. privacy.
