Tik-110.551 Internetworking Seminar (3cr) Spring 2000

The the topic of the Internetworking seminar in Spring term 2000 is Ad Hoc Networking, concentrating on IP based ad hoc networking but also covering some other technologies. The term ad hoc networking is currently vaguely defined and somewhat overloaded. In order not to accidentally limit out interesting technologies or other issues, we do not attempt to give any specific definition here, but refer to the introduction and to the list of topics.

In this seminar we will have a closer look at this development. We shall see what the new applications and their requirements to the network are and examine some key issues of ad hoc networking, including the following. (For the purposes of the seminar, all of the following issues are implicitly considered in the context of ad hoc networking, even when not explicitly mentioned.)

  • Ad hoc routing
  • IP in ad hoc networks
  • Multicast and QoS routing
  • Service discovery and network management
  • Security
  • Radio technologies
  • Context awareness
  • Power management
