TOVE
TOVE-project is a 3 year project, funded by TEKES and industry partners. The project will end 1998.
Introduction
The emerging broadband transmission technologies provide telecom and
service operators with a possibility to offer several interactive
multimedia services for both companies and consumers. The problems of
how these services are shown to consumers and how the services can
control the behaviour of the network must be solved. Switching,
routing and transmission technologies make versatile control of ATM
network possible.
By prototyping real broadband multimedia services in an ATM network
environment suitable protocols and interfaces for services based on
multimedia and personal and terminal mobility can be investigated.
The ATM switch in TOVE project is controlled via GSMP (General
Switch Management Protocol) or equivalent interface. On top of this
interface, an ATM-IN interface for broadband services has been
implemented. This interface can be distributed by CORBA techniques.
The TOVE service platform can be used by user interfaces, servers
and services implemented in the network. The switch used is the FSR
(Frame Synchronized Ring) developed by VTT, but any switch with GSMP
interface can be used.
Results
The project has implemented a number of protocol stacks in C++, and a
protocol framework called OVOPS++. The source code is property of the
funding companies until July 1999. Some publications are freely
available.
