Distribution of Switch Control.
Proceedings of the Workshop on Broadband Network Intelligence , Espoo, Finland (Nov. 1996)

Abstract

To support a wide range of multimedia services future fixed and wireless network capabilities should allow the distribution of service functions between the customer terminals and the network nodes. Intelligent networks can be considered the bridging technology between the customer-based service management and the service execution in the networks. Considering mobile and broadband technologies a natural question is how the concept of intelligence will develop. To satisfy broadband and multimedia service needs future networks should support much more distributed operations. In this paper Transparent Object-oriented Virtual Exchange (TOVE) architecture is developed and applied in fixed and wireless broadband systems. The presented TOVE architecture separates service, control and switching functions from each other and provides a scaleable platform that allows flexible allocation of these functions.
