Calypso - Programmable broadband networks

The Calypso project aims at developing a network architecture suitable for easy service creation and introduction in the future broadband access networks. This is achieved by developing a platform for service execution and management, on top of which the services can be created and deployed easily.

In our solution the services can be implemented as distributed Java applications that are able to communicate with each other over standard TCP/IP network. In addition the services are allowed to control the network directly, eg. set up and tear down native ATM connections through the network. This simple concept allows provision of different kind of services in single ATM-based network, eg. radio and TV distribution, Internet services etc.
