Course information

The main information channel for the course is its newsgroup opinnot.tik.media. You should also keep an eye on these webpages.

Staff and reception hours

The main teacher for the course is Ursula Holmström, reception hours on Fridays, 14-15pm in room A108.

There are four assistants on the course. The exercise hours (Fri 14-16 in maari-e) are the reception hours for the assistants. First exercise is January 21st. An IRC-reception is held one hour before the homework deadlines on the channel #media.

The course staff can be reached on the IRC-channel #media, at least during the IRC-reception, as well as through the newsgroup opinnot.tik.media. In matters concerning your own studies you can use the email address media@tml.hut.fi, but using news or IRC is likely to be faster and more reliable. Any email sent to the staff's personal addresses will be ignored.

Course requirements

To pass the course you have to pass the assignments and exam. The grade is based on the exam grade and a possible raise from the assignments.

This course has 6 homework assignments and one pre-assignment. All students participating must return the pre-assignment. All assignments are personal, that is each student submits an answer written by the student herself or himself. You need 50% of the total assignment points to pass the course, and 75% of the points to get a raised grade. A failed examination (grade 0) can not be raised to a grade 1. A maximum of about 20 pints will be given for each assignment so that the total maximum points will be 120.

Exams and completed assignments are valid for two years. Please note that this is the last time the course is arranged and thus the last possibility to do the home assignments. Exams will still be arranged during the 2005-2006 study year.
