Tik-110.401 Fundamentals of Computer Security

Overview
The course introduces the fundamentals of the computer security concepts, models and principles.

The course is worth 2 credits. The students must pass the exam and 4 out of 6 home assignments in order to pass the course. It is also possible to write a small thesis in addition to the exam and the home assignments. With the thesis the course is worth 3 credits and can be included in doctoral studies.

The lectures are in hall T1 on tuesdays from 9 to 12 am. The lectures are given in Finnish. However, it is possible to pass the course in English by reading the course book and the papers included in the "prujut" (i.e. the photocopied material) and writing the exam and the home assignments in English.

The course newsgroup is opinnot.tik.verkkoturva. New information about the course is posted to the group in Finnish and in English.
Prerequisities
It is recommended that the student attending this course has the basic knowledge of modelling the computersystems in formal methods (e.g. Tik-79.157). The course can be passed without the knowledge of formal methods but in this case it is possible that some of the course goals won't be achieved.
