TML - RESEARCH
NOTE: This is the old project page, which is no longer updated! For
information on laboratory's current projects, please see the
new project page.
In the laboratory there are many research projects continuously in progress.
Some of the projects are independent but some projects join closely together
and so research groups have materialised. These groups have projects that support
each other. Such groups are DIVA (focuses on sound in virtual
environments), EVE (virtual research environment)
and BBS (studies service architectures
for broadband networks).
Current | Past
- R&D Net / SimLab (Smeds)
- Networked R&D Process Innovations In Telecommunications.
- Helmi / SimLab (Smeds)
- Holistic Development of e-Learning and Business Models.
- TAKU
- The project is divided in different units and it researches different
aspects of acoustics.
- GO
- Mobile internet user interfaces. TML's part is to research web architectures,
data security and software architectures.

- TeSSA (Karila)
- In the TeSSA project we have introduced an SPKI based public key infrastructure,
and applied it to the management of Java 1.2 security policy. We are building
an open ISAKMP based authentication protocol framework, as well as studyig
Elliptic Curve based public key ciphers.
- STAMI
- Calypso (Hannu Kari)
- During year 2000 Calypso-project developed a Java 2 EE based service creation environment for example service creation and demonstration.

- Future TV (Vuorimaa)
- Future TV is a research project which aims to study the digital television as platform for new interactive multimedia services. The research project was started in March 1998 and it is planned to last for three years. The project is funded by Technology Development Center of Finland together with major finnish television, telecommunications, and digital media companies.
- SimLab (Smeds
/ Takala)
- Enterprise Simulation Laboratory (the mother project), joint project with
Department of Industrial Management
- NETVE (Takala)
- NETworked Virtual Environments.
- VSOP
(Virtual Symphony Orchestra Performance) (Takala)
- VSOP-project studies conductor's interaction with virtual musicians and
concert hall.
- VR3 (Takala)
- The aim and purpose of this project is to build a software and hardware
solution for the Finnish Railways (VR) which
can be used to train new locomotive drivers.
- Ipsec (Karila)
- The IPSEC project created a number of IPSEC protocol prototypes. (IPSEC
is the IETF standard for TCP/IP network layer security.)
- TOVE (Finnish
only) (Martikainen)
- Development of distributed broadband ATM-switch with Corba based service
interfaces and new pilot services.
