VERKKOKE PROJECT

There are several components required for the online assessment program. Firstly you will need to find a Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)compliant Learning Management System (LMS). This is the interface where the student logs in and out, starts assessment and views their scores. We have tested using Moodle and Optima but any other LMS that is SCORM compliant can be used.

SCORM stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model. It's a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning. SCO is the Sharable Content Object.

For more information on each of these Learning Management Systems, you can visit their websites for their terms and conditions. Optima is the system that will be used in the HUT/TKK course as the University uses it for other courses and have a license. Moodle is a freeware LMS that is available for download also. Please read the conditions for these systems as we take no responsibility for their misuse.

Next you will need to download the program. Verkkoke version 1.0 was never made available, although it was used in Computer Networks course. Verkkoke version 1.1 beta is now available. The tar.gz package contains everything, including source code and user manual. You can also download the manual separately, if you wish.

The beta version is feature complete and functional and is used on Computer Networks course this fall (2007). System is developed, tested and used with Moodle, Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat Servlet Engine running on Debian GNU/Linux. The documentation is still somewhat incomplete.

Version 1.1 (non-beta) should be ready late this December (2007) or January next year (2008). If you would like to contact us to find out more please visit our contact page for details.
